Anthropolis Anthropological Public Benefit Association was founded in 2002 by cultural anthropologists. Anthropolis’ mission is to analyse global issues, raise awareness of their impact, and support the development of critical global citizenship perspectives. The organisation works to strengthen the institutional background of education and visual anthropological research through global education and digital storytelling. Anthropolis published the first anthropological periodical in Hungary; produced documentaries on Hungarian minorities, people with special needs, migrants and on the Millennium Development Goals; organises media campaigns and awareness-raising festivals on global issues such as human rights, active citizenship, sustainability; founded the first Hungarian Global Education Resource Centre at ELTE University; and publishes educational toolkits for trainers and teachers as well as lecture books for elementary and secondary school students. Anthropolis is a member of the HAND Platform [www.hand.org.hu] (Hungarian Association of NGOs for Development and Humanitarian Aid) and is among the most prominent and active promoters of global education in Hungary.
Anthropolis adopted the digital storytelling method in 2010 and since then the organisation delivered several workshops and projects for diverse target groups including teachers, people in special need, and private individuals. Anthropolis organized international workshops for teachers and trainers from all over Europe and dedicates a website especially for digital storytelling [www.storycenter.hu] where all the related activities (such as workshops, films, materials) are available.
In the last decade Anthropolis has been working intimately with more than 40 European non-governmental organisations in the field of education, culture, research and social work and has built strategic partnerships with local communities, decision makers, universities, NGOs and educational development institutes.
